I just finished my first week back to school and this year has gotten off to a great start!

Why?

Simple…It’s all about procedures!

Procedures are the key to effective classroom management!

Do NOT underestimate the power of properly teaching your students the classroom procedures AND don’t make the mistake of thinking procedures and discipline are the same thing…they are not.

The Difference Between Discipline and Procedures

DISCIPLINE: Concerns how students BEHAVE. When you have a teacher who does not have an organized classroom management action plan, you have a teacher who has a disorganized classroom. This, of course, results in discipline problems and the teacher spends much wasted academic engaged time handling behavior problems.

Handling behavioral problems only results in temporary behavior change.

PROCEDURES: Concerns how things are DONE. A teacher who has a classroom management action plan will have an organized and structured classroom where both the teacher and students will know what to do.

Remember, to properly teach classroom procedures you must first explain the procedure, then model the procedure, and then actually have the students practice the procedure. And, don’t be afraid to reteach the procedures whenever necessary.

Linkwheel technique

Im not too sure how many readers have heard of the link wheel technique. For those who have then you will know what I am talking about and for those that havnt then let me explain.

A little while back about 7 months ago many Internet marketers where using a technique which they called the LINK WHEEL. This was basically using Web 2.0 accounts such as Hubpages, squidoo, blogger, wetpaint and the many more available on the Net.

The way this system was set up was by having the web 2.0 properties interlink with each other and your website. So you would have the HUbpage link to your money site and also blogger – you would then have your blogger link to your money site and wetpaint – the same applied for all of the other web 2.0 accounts you created which would form a circle or link wheel.

You would target 1 keyphrase for all of the web 2.0 properties you have created and the same keyphrase for your money site. This technique was very powerful which would allow you multiple page 1 listngs for your money site and also your web 2.o properties which you created.

The web 2.0 properties would also get bookmarked and backlink to make them more powerful. It wasnt very long before Google figured out the technique due to the footprint it created and started to devalue them.

But not all has been lost.

There is another way to use this technique making it harder to trace the footprint.

I like to call it the 3d link wheel. Its using the same concept in the sense that you are still using the web 2.0 properties but this time in tiers. So you will create about 4 web 2.0 properties linking back to your site only as tier 1. You will then create another set of web 2.0 properties linking back to your first tier web 2.0 properties however this time 2 outbound links on the 2nd tier web 2.0 properties.

so if for example for tier 1 we used Blogger – wetpaint – hubpages and squidoo and for tier 2 we used quizilla– msn spaces – live journal and wordpress Then you will link all tier one accounts to your money site and tier 2 accounts will be linked to your tier 1 sites 2 at a time -

so you might have wordpress linking to blogger and hubpages. Quizilla linking to squidoo and wetpaint Msn spaces linking to blogger and squidoo and so on You will then backlink all of the web 2. 0 properties and keep creating more tiers. This ensures that authority of these sites are being passed down to other authoritative sites which then pass down the authority to your site.

If you do this then you will see your web 2.0 accounts and your website ranking very high in the search engines. To make it a little more clearer I have created a diagram below

Smoking Marijuana Can Increase Risk of Testicular Cancer

The association between smoking marijuana and cancer was based on the study that the risk increased twice to those who used marijuana at least weekly as compared to those who never smoked. The increase in risk was also evident in those who had long-term exposure to marijuana beginning in their adolescence.
In a study on the link between smoking marijuana and cancer, researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center claim that either frequent or long-term use of marijuana may substantially increase the risk of developing testicular cancer. The findings on the said study on smoking marijuana and cancer were published on February 9, 2009 in the journal “Cancer.” The findings of the study on the association of smoking marijuana and cancer proved that the link of marijuana use is limited to nonseminoma, which is a fast-growing testicular malignancy, found between the age of 20 and 35. The link also showed grounds for about 40% of all cases of testicular cancer.
An epidemiologist and member of the Public Health Sciences Division at the Hutchinson Center, Stephen Schwartz said that their study on the link between smoking marijuana and cancer is not the first to propose that the lifestyle or environment of an individual is a factor for testicular cancer; however, he claimed that their study is the first that has linked marijuana use as a risk factor.
Another epidemiologist and member of the Center, Janet Daling said that during puberty, the risk of testicular cancer is greater just like the changing hormonal environment of adolescence and adulthood can precipitate fetal germ cells to become cancerous. She further explained that the findings of their study on smoking marijuana and cancer has been consistent that the increased risk of nonseminoma type testicular cancer was associated with using or smoking marijuana before the age of 18.
Eight years ago, Daling first conceptualized on exploring the possible link between smoking marijuana and cancer as she listened to a physician during at talk at the University of Washington. The physician showed findings that the brain and the testes consist of receptors for THC or tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the primary psychoactive component of marijuana.
More so, Daling has also learned from various sources that THC receptors were also found in the immune system, uterus, heart, and spleen cells. Daling said that using marijuana may distort the anti-tumor effect that could be another explanation for the possible association between smoking marijuana and cancer. During the study on the association between smoking marijuana and cancer, participants were asked about their lifestyle and habits apart from disclosing the span of their marijuana use. Thus, the findings proved that using marijuana was a substantial risk factor for testicular cancer in spite family history and history of undescended testes.
Although the researchers stressed that the findings on their study on the link between smoking marijuana and cancer are not conclusive, it still opens the door to more research questions to come up with a decisive result on smoking marijuana and cancer link.

Here is an interesting audio piece from Eric Klein on Pacifica Radio, interviewing me and altie cartoonist Lloyd Dangle about the status of editorial cartoons, where political cartooning is going in the future and those frustrating cartoon iPhone apps.

Businessweek magazine is doing a story on the Facebook privacy policy next week and asked us for cartoons on the topic – we didn’t have any, so Brian Fairrington and I both drew them up very quickly Monday night. That’s my cartoon at the right, and here is Brian’s Facebook privacy cartoon. It is interesting that we both drew cartoons with two square arrow boxes; great minds think alike, I guess.

I have no idea if Businessweek will end up using either Facebook cartoon.
